The Wives of Amin
The Wives of Amin
Episode 1: When the Sky Came Home
English Version
The final light of the tournament still hung over the higher island when Amin stood with the five and the monkey.
They faced one another in a quiet line. One by one they bowed the traditional way — deep, unhurried, hands at their sides, heads lowered with full respect. Amin returned each bow with the same care. No long speeches were needed. The shared days had already said enough.
When the last bow was finished, Amin took the Ninku sword in his hand, stepped to the edge of the cloud platform, and rose into the air. He flew straight downward through the bright layers of the New Heaven until the familiar valley opened beneath him. He landed softly on the grass of the Homestead just as the sun touched the western hills. The time was half past seven.
The fields were still busy.
All eight women worked among the animals and the low fences. Their clothes showed the day: mud on hems, dust on sleeves, dirt on sandals. Some wore plain bonnets, some short bandanas tied at the nape, a few wore wide bucket hats against the late light. None of them looked polished. They looked like people who had been working since morning.
Chihiro was the first to lift her head.
She froze, eyes wide, then called out once. Ronada dropped the coil of rope in her hands without looking down. Liora and Imani were already moving. Within seconds every woman in the field had seen him.
They ran.
Chihiro reached him first and dropped to her knees, forehead pressed hard to the earth at his boots. Liora and Imani fell beside her in the same motion. Tanita arrived next, breath sharp, and threw her head back.
“Hallelujah!”
The cry tore across the valley so loudly that birds lifted from the trees and distant figures on the far road turned to look.
Sachiko and Ronada leaned forward together and kissed the tops of his boots. Chihiro and Liora took his hands, pressed their lips to his palms, then held those same palms flat against their own foreheads as though the touch itself carried blessing. Tanita, Imani, and Sachiko kept their foreheads to the ground, voices rising in steady, unbroken praise. The circle of eight stayed that way for a long, quiet stretch of time.
Azizah was the first to speak.
She kept her forehead near the earth but lifted her voice enough to be heard.
“How was the tournament? Did you win?”
Amin looked down at the bowed heads and answered in a steady voice.
He told them he had not won. He spoke of the long climb, the rainbow Colosseum, the nearly one billion watchers, the matches he had seen, the sudden confrontation with the two broad warriors who tried to bar his way, and the quiet strength of the five who stood with him. He told them of the monkey who had sought him out the next morning, of the giant eye that judged every strike, and of the final path that crowned another. He did not mention the soft light that had stood beside his bed while he slept, because he had no memory of it.
While he was still speaking, Cassolina rose from her place, stepped in close, and kissed him firmly on the mouth. The kiss was deep and certain. When she drew back, the others stood as well. With gentle hands they guided him toward the house — Azizah at his right, Cassolina at his left, the rest forming a quiet half-circle around him — until he was inside and the bedroom door closed behind them.
The camera stayed outside.
Twenty-four hours later the room was dim and peaceful.
Amin and the eight women slept in the great bed, all of them dressed in simple pajamas. No one was uncovered. The soft rhythm of breathing filled the space.
An alarm chimed.
Amin opened his eyes before any of the others stirred. He turned the sound off at once so it would not wake them. He knew how much they had already given. He slipped from the bed, moved through the quiet house, washed, and dressed himself in the gold celestial suit that marked his work. In the kitchen he prepared a plain breakfast with his own hands.
Tanita no longer worked at the Hall of Heavenly Administration. After the marriage she had left the post so she could remain at the Homestead and share the daily labor with the others. Only Amin still carried the diplomatic duties.
He was nearly at the door when Azizah appeared in the hallway, still in her night clothes.
She stopped when she saw him ready to leave.
“You’re going to work,” she said softly.
“Yes. Today is a work day.”
She remembered, and a small smile touched her face. She walked to him, placed both hands flat against his chest, and leaned up. The kiss that followed was long, deep, and full of everything she could not put into words. When it ended she kept her face close to his.
“Please be safe,” she whispered. Tears stood in her eyes. “I need you to be safe. Everything I am depends on you coming home.”
Amin lifted one hand and brushed the tear away with his thumb.
“I will be safe,” he said. “I promise.”
He drew her into a full embrace. They held each other without speaking for a full three minutes, her cheek against the gold of his suit, his arms steady around her. When they finally stepped apart, he pressed one last quiet kiss to her forehead.
Then he opened the door and walked out into the early light.
Azizah stood in the doorway and watched him go. She did not move until the gold of his figure had disappeared completely beyond the far rise of the land.
Only then did she close the door.
Para Istri Amin
Episode 1: Ketika Langit Pulang
Ia membeku, mata melebar, lalu berseru sekali.
Ia berhenti ketika melihatnya siap pergi.
“Kau akan pergi bekerja,” katanya lembut.
“Ya.
Ketika selesai ia tetap mendekatkan wajahnya.
“Tolong tetap aman,” bisiknya. Air mata berdiri di matanya. “Aku butuh kau tetap aman.
No hicieron falta discursos largos.
“Estaré a salvo,” dijo.
