I believe most acquaintances are a result of rapport established and maintained simply for the duration of the interaction at hand. Like the short exchange with the person pumping gas next to you; or in line in front of you somewhere.
We aren't establishing any lasting bond with the people sitting in front of us at the game, but we can interact like best friends while we are both there.
A friendship is more than an acquaintance. You have a history and have established a bond involving at least some trust.
Even friendships, like a college roommate, are usually going to dwindle away as we both move on.
It happens with wives, children, even some family members. So I must conclude that the only permanent vestige in our lives is us. Everything and everyone else is usually time limited; or as you suggest, temporary.
So, enjoy the moment because we truly don't know what tomorrow will bring for those in our world…for the moment
