Pain is inevitable but suffering is optional

I have come to believe that life is easy when you put your life in God's hands because through God life is not hard: it may seem hard but it's not.
All that a person need is food, shelter, clothing, and a purpose to occupy themselves during the daylight hours. That's it.

This is why it is almost physically painful for me to hear all the needless complaining from others.
I don't know if it's me and I am oversimplifying things or people are deliberately creating difficulties in their lives such as relatives, friends, etc - if this area of one's life is kept clean of negative/pessimistic/toxic people, then life becomes easier as well: don't want to talk to that nagging friend - then don't pick up the phone instead of spending 20 mins listening to someone's problems and then re-telling them to others.
Don't want to hear the same old talk from someone - well, ask if it's urgent and hang up the phone, or let it go to the voicemail and delete it after the fact.

Issues do come up, however, even if they are not of our own doing.
This is when another principle comes into play: Pain is inevitable but suffering is optional.

Obstacles are like walls: you can bash through them, you can walk along them until they end, or you can rise above them. Fighting each and every battle is impossible, yet invitations keep on coming, so it's best not to accept them.
